Among over 200 custom bikes of 2%ER, this is the SR400 show custom that stands out from the rest, with meticulous attention to detail and the most effort put into it.

Instead of the usual process of exhibiting at a custom show when the order vehicle is completed, this project started with an order from the owner saying, “I want you to build the best custom in the history of 2%ER”.

The engine is a big finned 400, hand-polished by the owner who spent a tremendous amount of time on it. In order not to lose to the owner’s passion, we aimed to create the most beautiful silhouette in the history of SR custom, a 70’s chopper style full custom.

Designed from scratch, all original, the front JYRO style front fork, rear plunger suspension, two types of brakes that can handle suicide jockeys (front brakeless hand brake), a molding frame integrated with the gas tank, etc. This is a certified vehicle that has exhausted all the technology available at the time.

Despite the long fork, we insisted on neutral handling without quirks, and the owner uses it for daily use such as lunch, night runs, and touring, even though it is a show custom level vehicle. Of course, the owner rides it to the custom show for exhibition.

The paint is by “KAMIKAZE PINSTRIPE” in Kyoto. We had them finish painting with a wave design that is only used for 2%ER’s flagship models on a base of candy green on smoke.

The only part that sticks out from the vehicle body is about the step. The slimness, like a dragonfly, is also a feature of this custom.

FrontHandlebars, F forks, headlights, etc.

Front Fork

◯A one-off front fork made to imitate the “JYRO Springer”, a unique under-spring springer even in the 70’s. The offset distance of the triple tree, which greatly affects handling, the material of the main pipe, the relationship of the three hole positions of the bottom rocker, the setting of the spring, etc., have been finished after more than 10 changes (trail width 70mm).


Front Wheel

◯The wheel is an 18-inch, 6-spoke Invader.

Front Tire

“SHINKO flute 3.00-18”

〇A street tire with a vertical groove design. It helps to lighten the handling that tends to become heavy when long forks are used. It is a small diameter, rounded 3.00 size.


Handle/Handle Area

◯The handle is a 1-inch riser-less drag bar. We finished it simply while adding decorations to match the ripple shape of the frame and muffler.

◯For the hand control, we used a simple Harley throttle and brake lever. The brake lever operates one of the double calipers located at the rear through a brake master hidden under the engine. This design does not attach a brake caliper to the front side that would interfere with the simple design of the front fork/wheel. By doing this, we have finished it in a specification that can be ridden without hesitation even with a suicide jockey shift in a simple design.


Headlight

◯The headlight is 5 inches. It was installed in a well-balanced position with a one-off light stay that also serves as a handle stopper.


Speedometer

The electric speedometer installed in front of the left gasoline tank operates by the rotation pulse of the magnet embedded in the rear wheel.


Front Blinker

“X Mini Blinker”

◯ The blinker, which looks as if it is not installed, is fitted with the “X Mini Blinker” under the engine mount.

“Universal Blinker Stay 10A Type Steel”

〇 The ultra-small micro blinker is installed on the front side under the engine mount.


CenterTank, oil tank, seat, step, muffler etc.

• The frame integrated with the gasoline tank, set in millimeter units, uses a member with a special squeezing process applied to a high-rigidity pull-out material in some parts. After chrome plating, it is molded and painted in candy green.


Engine

◯The engine is hand-polished by the owner over a year. The cylinder head is made into a big fin, and the left and right crankcase covers are finished in chrome plating.


Step/Shift

◯ The mid-high step is a one-off design added to the regular “Mid-High Jockey Shift Kit”. While maintaining the ease of operation for brake touch and shift touch, additional design elements were added.

◯ The foot pedal operates the KUSTOM TECH master cylinder installed at the rear of the engine, designed for the rear disc.

〇 The Jockey Shift Kit is designed with a focus on touch and stroke operation, while maintaining the comfortable riding posture of the mid-high step.


Carburetor

◯This is also finished by hand polishing by the owner.

〇Your slow SR will drastically change. It’s a carburetor that’s easy to handle with sharp and smooth acceleration.

〇This is a set of a stainless steel trash guard net and a change from a red plastic funnel to aluminum.


Muffler

“Exhaust Pipe Flange Set for One-off Pipe Production”

“CRAZY” Ripple Pipe, 42.7mm Tapered (for 1-3/4″ Pipes)

〇Used a handy production kit for the root mouthpiece and made a one-off production. A drag pipe muffler made close to the vehicle body with a simple silhouette. The “CRAZY Ripple Pipe” was used in the middle.


Seat

◯This is a cobra seat with the center in velour and the sides in genuine leather.


Electrical Equipment

◯A one-off custom-made aluminum electrical box in a beehive shape placed under the seat. The top is a screw-on lid.


Kick Pedal

◯A kick pedal made with a ripple design.


  • RearFenders, rear shocks, swingarms, etc.

    • A one-off manufactured plunger suspension. Despite countless trials and errors, this is the only part of the vehicle that I regret not being able to achieve satisfactory movement with.


    Rear Wheel

    ◯ The disc-converted rear wheel is a custom-ordered 18-inch chrome rim. The center hub, taken from another model, is also finished by hand-polishing by the owner.

    ◯ The brake is a double caliper, two-system specification (each operates one unit with the hand lever and foot pedal).


    Rear Fender

    ◯The rear fender is based on the “universal cycle fender”, with effective reinforcements added to the back to withstand the vibrations of the SR. It is safely mounted with a 6-point mount.


    Tail Lamp

    ◯The sissy bar was made with stainless steel material. The “Rock Tail” was installed in a double configuration.
