#187 SR500Custom Report
I used my days off and spare time to create this chopper for myself, which I haven’t been able to do in a long time. I gradually customized and assembled it while overhauling an engine that was half disassembled and a frame that was as good as garbage with a mysterious sidecar attached.
I’ve built six SRs for myself, only to give them to customers who said, “I want it!!” I missed riding an SR for a while, so I created a style that is easy to ride in the city and the most comfortable for long touring among many projects for myself, in order to ride an SR a lot.
What I imagined was not the mainstream so-cal (Southern California) style, but my own interpretation of the nor-cal (Northern California) style, adding a hippie feel and a rustic custom feel to the stock chop atmosphere.
It’s a style that is similar to my previous car, “Custom Gallery No. 59 SR400 B-Class Chopper“, but I added a custom feel with the molding of the gas tank and frame, and the making of the seat rail, while keeping the dimensions that were refined for long touring, such as fork length, tires, rear shocks, step position, etc.
Usually, I outsource the bond work for molding and painting, but after getting help from “AMAGARAGE” and “KAMIKAZE“, I borrowed a booth and studied under “BACON“. It’s a rough finish with my first frame paint, but I tried to finish it with all my favorite designs.

• In order to maintain it for a long time, the engine, which was a half-rose parts picker, was fully overhauled from the crankshaft core, with a 500cc, powder-coated cylinder, and the head and head cover are finished with shot blasting. The paint is based on a 0.2mm square metal flake, and the theme is to finish in brown without using white/ivory that gives a stylish feel. With a lot of help, it’s a custom paint job that I, a novice at painting, applied for the first time from the frame.

【Seat】
◯The distinctive seat that became the starting point for this custom was an unidentified item I acquired at an American swap meet in the past.
【Under the Seat】
◯The frame under the seat is hand-bent from a single thick pipe, and the end is looped while slightly dropping down.
【Gasoline Tank Installation】
◯The gasoline tank is a Sportster tank welded to the frame. To counteract the micro-vibrations and heat-induced cracks (breaks) in domestic vehicles, we create a layer of air between the tank and the frame, apply stress dispersion patches to each, and weld a steel plate that also serves as a molding base with a spot welder… We are putting in the effort for long-term use.
