#188 SR500Custom Report

This is an SR500 custom made with the aim of embodying the dirt/flat tracker style based on British cars from the 70s.

This is one of the vehicles that I was allowed to fully customize, from the frame to the wheels and engine, because the owner, who is very particular, and the ideas I had been warming up for when I would build a tracker with SR, matched and we hit it off.

In order to achieve this style’s characteristic waste-free, horizontal, and simple style, the frame, which serves as the skeleton, was once cut at the seat rail, and a new thick steel pipe was lifted about one pipe’s worth upwards, and the rear shock absorber position was also moved upwards. The overall silhouette was adjusted to look like a racer of the time with an F19 inch, rear 18 inch H-type aluminum rim, a rear shock that is slightly longer than stock, and a top bridge from another car that significantly lowers the handlebar clamp position.

The frame end was designed with a Trackmaster frame and a fender brace was made.

The gasoline tank was modified for BSA use. It has been resized to fit the SR’s vehicle size with a bit of narrowing work.

This is an SR500 that was made through numerous meetings with the owner to balance the details of the classic flat tracker on the SR body.

Custom List

FrontHandlebars, F forks, headlights, etc.

Front Fork

◯The front fork was left stock, and the excess stays on the bottom case were cut off, smoothed, and then finished with polish.

Front Wheel

◯The front wheel is a 19-inch H-type aluminum rim from Excel. The wheel hub has been enhanced with a “hub cap”, the inside has been shot blasted, and the hub ears have been finished with a hairline after a racy drilled process.

2%er Front Wheel Aluminum Hub Cap [SR400/500]

〇You can change to a classical style by attaching it to the normal drum brake.

Headlight

◯The side-mounted headlight is something I found at an American swap meet before, which I re-chromed and mounted by shaving down a universal light stay.

Handle/Handle Area

◯The handle is deliberately extended in the Ariel type without using a tracker bar.

◯The SR frame, which tends to have a high head pipe position and becomes a weak point when creating this kind of horizontal style, has been brought closer to the horizontal silhouette by lowering the handle clamp position by about 32mm with a top bridge for other vehicles.

CenterTank, oil tank, seat, step, muffler etc.

• The gasoline tank is BSA, after careful repair, it is safely installed with a 22mm wide filler and a 3-point rubber mount. The main frame, which has been smoothed by removing unnecessary stays and finished with chrome plating, has the under-seat frame relocated one pipe higher than the stock, shaping the silhouette.

Muffler

“One-off Pipe Manufacturing Exhaust Pipe Flange Set”

Low Pass Baffle

〇The exhaust pipe at the owner’s preferred angle uses a convenient manufacturing kit for the mouthpiece, and a dead stock racing megaphone is set at the end. Inside, a “low pass baffle” is installed to eliminate high-pitched sounds and create a torque-full characteristic.

Step

◯The step and pedals are modified from stock. BSA step rubber and Norton change rubber were installed. The brake pedal has been additionally hand-bent to resemble a vintage style.

Seat

◯Solo seat/Pillion pad are also custom made. The front and rear seats are mounted to connect smoothly.

Engine

◯The cylinder head has rounded aluminum fins added by welding, making it a big fin. The cylinder is powder coated, and the covers are buff finished.
