#163 SR500Custom Report

This is a hardtail custom of the SR500 ordered from the base vehicle.

The owner is a first-time bike owner. The order came from a woman who is not very tall.

Therefore, it is a vehicle that is easy to handle, with lightness, good footing, no need for force in handle operation, light clutch operation, good seat cushioning, etc. as the first priority.

The reason why we selected low-height tires for the style is to make it easy to handle even with the arm strength of a slender woman, to have good footing, and to make it easy to push and pull.

 

On top of that, in response to the custom order of “I absolutely don’t want to overlap with others”, we first simplified the frame by hardtailing the rear section, and followed the 60’s style for the overall silhouette of the vehicle.

We attached a vintage Husqvarna tank, and arranged the fenders, mufflers, headlights, etc. in a simple and balanced manner.

 

The handle was set at a height that was easy to operate while straddling the owner.

Only the rear sissy bar and tail lamp area were accented with KUSTOM techniques.

 

Since the owner, who is light-footed and active, was expected to run around with loads, we had her bring her favorite backpack and made the sissy bar at a width and height that was easy to tie.

 

The finish is classical and tasteful, as if it has been used without gloss, which was a strong wish of the owner.

The aging paint of the tank/fender is ” BACON “, and the paint and rust processing of the rest of the vehicle was handled by 2%ER.

Front Tire

◯The front tire, which greatly affects handling, is of size 4.10-18. Among them, those with a classical pattern and roundness are chosen. It is set up so that even a slender female owner can easily handle it lightly. The condition of being low in height was also a requirement, and we chose something that can be handled with less force. The footing is also good.


Headlight

Old Bates Type Side Mount Light Kit SR400/500 XS650

◯Reproduced from vintage models of the time, for SR & XS. The light unit is a bright H4 bulb that passes vehicle inspection.


Handle/Handle Area

◯The handle is a “Medium Canyon Bar” (discontinued). It was installed simultaneously with a one-off handle post modified for Estrella, setting the handle in the best position where the owner can easily apply force. It has been set up for easy handling.

Amal type throttle holder, general purpose (for 7/8″)

◯The controls are the standard 2%ER clean treatment.


Handle Lock Weld On Kit

〇Install a new handle lock on the lower part of the under bracket.


MOTOR ROCK Decompression lever

A decompression lever directly attached to the engine to simplify the area around the handle. (The one on the vehicle is an old model)

Universal Speedometer Stay

〇Mounted on the left front side of the gasoline tank, where it is inconspicuous and highly visible.


CenterTank, oil tank, seat, step, muffler etc.

• The gasoline tank is from a treasured vintage Husqvarna. It ensures sufficient capacity. The bottom plate and tunnel have been remade and safely installed with a four-point rubber mount. The parts that peeled off due to the heat of processing and the new iron plate parts have been repainted to match the atmosphere while preserving the original paint, and a special treatment to maintain durability was requested from ” BACON “.


Muffler

◯A simple drag pipe. We added a little movement to the end part as an accent. Of course, it’s designed so that the inner baffle can be easily attached and detached with just one bolt.


Seat

◯The seat is a one-off solo saddle with a suede surface, a particular preference of the owner. The mounting angle and the direction of input to the spring have been optimized, making it a rigid yet cushioned and easy-to-ride specification.

〇A mount kit that is easy to attach mainly to custom frames. The lever ratio can also be changed, allowing for good cushioning during production.


Electrical

〇All electrical components except for the CDI are consolidated at the rear of the engine crankcase. It is easily accessible from either side of the vehicle and has good maintainability. There is no need to reassemble even if you return to the swing arm specification during vehicle inspection.

〇This is a battery-less kit made entirely in Japan.

IC blinker relay wide range specification

〇A wide-range turn signal relay that can be used without any problem with LED turn signals. It supports 1-150 watts and can also be used as a replacement for the original relay.

Custom Ignition Switch Weld On Kit General Purpose

〇The main key, which is originally attached to the top bridge, is welded to the lower left of the seat for easy operation even while riding.


Engine Area

Breather filter SR400/500

〇A filter kit needed when removing the original air cleaner.


Drive System

    Hardtail

    “Rigid Line” Bolt-On Hardtail Kit』(5cm Long)

    〇As the name suggests, it’s a detachable hardtail kit using bolts/nuts. It remodels the original frame’s seat rail to a rigid line. You can revert back to the swing arm/rear shock specification during vehicle inspection or when changing styles.


    Rear Tire

    ◯ From among many tires, we chose those that are low in height to improve the classical look and footing, easy to handle even with small force, and suit the atmosphere around the rear of KUTOM.


    Rear Fender

    ◯ We have selected the “Classical Center Rib Fender” (discontinued) with slightly deeper sidewalls. The rear fender of the SR400/500 is prone to damage due to vibration, but we have effectively reinforced the back with suitable materials and securely fixed it with a 6-point mount.


    Sissy Bar / Tail Lamp

    ◯ The mount of the fender that points almost horizontally at the end, a wide plug-in sissy bar, and two deadstock marker lights were installed in a row, adding a slightly spacey KUSTOM feel as an accent. The sissy bar is all stainless. It’s equipment for running around, to tie up the lively owner’s luggage with light footwork.


    RearTurn Signal
