The owner of 2%ER painstakingly assembled this old-school style SR400 for personal use after work and on holidays.
There wasn’t a particular style in mind, but it was built using original and one-off parts to give it a somewhat Californian feel.
The focus was on “performance” and “ride comfort”. The theme was how comfortable a ride could be created with a rigid rear.
The front remains 18 inches, while the rear has been converted to 16 inches. With low-profile rounded tires front and rear, it has excellent maneuverability in the city.

With a “15 cm fork joint” and extended swingarm, it has a long wheelbase and stable high-speed cruising.
Despite the rigid suspension, a handlebar tailored to the body shape, “mid-high step“, and a spring saddle seat allow for easy 500 km rides on local roads in a day.

Front Fork Area

◯The bottom case is finished with smoothing & polish. The normal 18-inch front wheel, with the selection of small tires, allows you to swing around even in the city despite the long fork.

Front Tire

〇A street tire with a vertical groove design. It helps to lighten the handling that tends to become heavy when long forks are used. It is a small, rounded 3.00 size.


Headlight

Handle/Handle Area

◯The handle is one-off. It’s a stainless steel pipe that has been hand-bent to fit the width of the vintage dog bone riser. The shovel clutch lever was repurposed for the brake, and it was finished simply with mini switches and the like.

Top Bridge for Bar Handle

◯A top bridge that lowers the handle mounting position by 2cm.

〇A one-off 1 in 2 muffler made using a convenient production kit for the base mouthpiece.


Step/Shift

“Mid-High Jockey Shift Kit/Parkarize”

〇A jockey shift kit that focuses on touch and stroke operation while maintaining the comfortable riding posture of the mid-high step.


Carburetor

◯ A normal engine that is worry-free and does not require troublesome oil management, yet capable of cruising at 130. With a high-geared final, the top speed is over 150 km/h.

FCR carburetor 39φ SR400/500 single unit

〇 The slow SR’s performance will drastically change. It’s a carburetor that is easy to handle, with sharp and smooth acceleration and good startability.

〇 It’s a dedicated adapter to firmly fix the FCR carburetor to the SR400/500.

〇 A set of a red plastic funnel replaced with aluminum and a stainless steel trash prevention net.


Seat

◯ We used vintage solo saddle seats and pillion pads. We paid particular attention to the mounting angle and the position of the pillion pad to achieve the best ride comfort in this style.

〇 This is a mount kit that is easy to attach mainly to custom frames. You can also change the lever ratio and create a good cushioning effect.


Seat Rail

◯The frame with seat rail drop processing is significantly narrower than the normal one. The suspension receiving part is made in a plate style, advocating the custom frame of that time.


Electrical Equipment

◯ The electrical box under the seat is a one-off, tailored to the frame shape. The main key has been relocated to the left side.

IC blinker relay wide range specification

〇A wide-range turn signal relay that can handle 1-150 watts without any problem, even for LED turn signals. It can also be used as a replacement for the original relay.

Battery Lesser

〇This is a battery-less kit that we manufacture entirely in Japan.


Gasoline Tank Installation

◯ The slightly narrowed peanut tank is one-off. We added a moderate amount of molding to the top surface so it won’t get boring.

Welding nut non-through M8 2p

〇 Drill a hole in the gasoline tank body and insert and weld. It’s non-penetrating, so it won’t leak. Used on both sides.

Weld tab M size 4.5mm thickness 2p

〇 Enlarge the hole diameter and change to a rubber mount specification to hold the non-penetrating nut. Used on both sides.

Weld tab L size 4.5mm thick steel 2p

〇 Used for the rear installation of the gas tank. This one also has an enlarged hole diameter and is used with a rubber mount.


Engine Area

Breather filter SR400/500

〇A filter kit needed when removing the original air cleaner.

    Rear Wheel

    SR400/500 XS250 Wheel Conversion Kit

    ◯The rear wheel is a 16-inch conversion of a cast, reused from XS250. It is installed without any modifications using the conversion kit. It is fitted with Goodyear replica tires.


    Rear Shock

    ◯The rear shock is replaced with a rigid suspension. We created a one-off design with a twist. We modified the attachment part of the frame/swing arm to make it narrower. The swing arm has been extended by 6cm.


    Rear Fender

    “5 Inch Flat Fender Material”

    〇A classic, simple flat fender with a molding base and a DUO tail attached. It’s a standard technique for old school choppers.


    Sissy Bar

    ◯A short sissy bar that grows from the inside of the swing arm. It’s just the right length to tie up shopping bags when riding around town. During long tours, it is replaced with a longer one to tie up the tent and sleeping bag.


    Rear Blinker
